I’m Mark, the face, the cartoon, and technician behind MR Audio Cable.

What started as a personal obsession with creating high-quality audio cables has grown into a dedicated one-man operation. I focus on crafting custom audio cables (as well as video, data and power cables - MR Audio Video Data and Power Cable is just a bit of a mouth full) that meet the high standards needed for recording studios, venues and touring musicians.

With a background in audio engineering and nearly 10 years of hands-on experience of AV installation and cable manufacture, I understand how the right cable can make all the difference—whether you're in the studio, on stage, or setting up the perfect home listening environment. I started MR Audio Cable with a simple goal: to build cables that I would trust in my own signal chain.

Each cable is hand-assembled and tested by me personally, using only high end components. No shortcuts, no mass production—just carefully built cables for people who care about sound as much as I do.

Prior to starting MR Audio Cable I was employed at Confetti ICT, part of Nottingham Trent University, as part of the core team involved in the technical installations both on campus and for external clients. I have worked alongside companies such as White Mark, Langdale Technical and Solotech. Installing 6 high end recording studios, 20 rehearsal rooms, 2 400+ Capacity music venues, 3 events training spaces and an E-Sports and Broadcast facility. Outside of the Confetti campus developments I have undertaken the installation of surround sound mix and edit studios for SUMO Digital both at their Sheffield and Brighton locations.

Below are some of the projects I’ve been involved in.

    Sonatune / Mount Street Studios

    Sonatune is a Nottingham based post production and recording studio, with as strong an emphasis on voice over / ADR / audio book production as it does recording music.
    This broad spectrum of work which they undertake saw some major alterations to their studio at the beginning of 2025.

    The control room was fully re-designed to allow for a fully immersive 7.1.4 Dolby ATMOS installation to be implemented. The new installation features PMC 6-2s, PMC Ci30s and a PMC 8-2 sub, all fed by a DAD AX Center, with additional analogue IO from a Ferrofish A32.

    To help them achieve this, I de-commissioning their TL Audio VTC console, and reconfiguring and re-locating all the studios’ audio and data patching infrastructure to work alongside the new set-up. Including adapting and making new cabling to suit the new IO layout. 

    As well as this, new speaker and signal lines needed pulling through the acoustic shell of the studio, from the control room to their technical cupboard. And finally, mounting all of the surround and height speakers. 

    The choice of PMC monitors and in particular the sizes of models selected ( a decision which was made in collaboration between Charlie and Tom of Sonatune and Joe Duckhouse from Whitemark who assisted with all the technical design of the install), really does allow the space to make the most of ATMOS. Delivering a fully calibrated system in a sleek installation.

    Notts County - THE NEST 48 Channel Passive Split

    As part of the redevelopment of Notts County’s Fan Zone and event space, THE NEST, I was contacted to make a custom 48 channel passive split to allow them to split input signals between their front of house console and either their in house monitor console, or any touring artist’s monitor rig.

    The panel itself consists of 48 inputs on XLR with a 150 pin VDM and hardwired breakout tails, colour coded in groups of 8s to make patching between acts and events more efficient. I also manufactured and supplied a 150 pin VDM to XLR tails, which also features the same colour coded braiding.

    JT Soar

    JT Soar is a recording and rehearsal facility based in a former Fruit and Veg warehouse in Nottingham. Run by producers and engineers Phil Booth, Robin Newman and Rich Collins. 

    Over the course of the studio’s 16 years it’s undergone many changes, evolving from renting one upstairs room to purchasing the whole property which now consists of 2 rehearsal spaces, a live room which doubles as a live performance space for DIY shows and a control room and vocal booth on the 1st floor. The most recent changes came in the form of a re-design of the control room and complete re-wire. 

    That’s where I came in. 

    Just before Christmas 2024 they reached out to me for cable manufacture and installation to integrate their Amek M1000 and their ever growing collection of new (and not so new) outboard onto Bantam patchbays. I was able to remove all the existing audio cable from the studio and adapt and re-terminate the majority of it to suit the new configuration and incorporate IO of the Amek console which had previously not been presented on patchbays. Where new cables were required I made custom DB25 breakout cables to allow us to patch new or re-located equipment.

    Their system is based around the Avid MTRX Studio, with additional IO handled by Dante expansion via a Tascam ML-32D, a Focusrite RedNet 3 and a Lynx Aurora 16. All configured with DADman and Pro Tools (with delay compensation values set in Pro Tools for each piece of external hardware) to allow patching to hardware with minimal physical patching.

    Jubilee Church

    At the heart of Jubilee Church is a performance space used weekly to deliver services. However this space is also used weekly by their own Young Creatives group. A group which aims to give young people access to music and live and technical tuition.

    This means that their space is required to be both flexible but accessible to a variety of technicians and operators.

    As part of some of their recent developments to the site, Jubilee have upgraded many elements of their show lighting, including new truss and fixtures. As part of the installation they asked me to pull and terminate new power and DMX control cabling alongside updating some of their on stage audio connectivity, including terminating in floor stage boxes.

    Studio 1 - Metronome

    Studio 1 is the flagship recording studio in Confetti’s Metronome building, which is the heart of their music, production and live and technical events educational delivery.

    The studio and the wider complex was designed in collaboration between Confetti and White Mark to provide spaces which deliver high levels of acoustic isolation due to their proximity to classrooms / rehearsal spaces and a 400 capacity venue upstairs.

    The studio itself is built around a 48 channel SSL Duality Delta console. Exigy main monitoring & ATC nearfield monitoring.

    All of the AD-DA for the studio is handled by Focusrite RED Dante hardware, with an analogue recording option available through a 2 inch 24 track Studer A827.

    The large live room includes a Steinway grand piano, Yamaha Absolute Maple Hybrid drum kit, a selection of Marshall, VOX and EH guitar and bass amps and vintage Rhodes. In addition there are two adjoining edit suites, with both analogue and Dante connectivity to both the Live Room and main Control Room.
